Frequently asked questions
Is TakeOath part of the government or the military?
No. We are an independent service. We are not affiliated with the U.S. government, the Department of Defense, or the National Guard, and we do not speak for them.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. TakeOath is free, and we tie no payment to enlistment.
How long does the path to citizenship take?
It is not instant, but it is faster than many people think. While the U.S. is in a designated period of hostilities (in effect since 2002), there is no minimum time in service to qualify under section 329, and a court struck down the old long waiting period for the Form N-426 honorable-service certification. Many service members naturalize during or soon after Basic. The exact rule is set by Defense policy and shifts, so confirm your case with a recruiter and USCIS.
Do you store my medical or legal answers?
No. The self-check runs on your device and the answers are discarded. Only a coarse readiness signal is saved, and only if you have an account and consent.
Will you give me legal or immigration advice?
No. We give general information only. For your own case, talk to a recruiter and, when you need it, a licensed attorney.
